The Violet Patch
_______________________________________________________________________

At one of the entrances to the Rollin T. Grant Gulf Wilderness Park is a plaque that reads:

The Violet Patch
Given In Memory of Josephine McCollum Carveth
by her family August 30,1967

"May the joy in your heart always match
The beauty found in this violet patch"

It is attached to millstone that was originally used in a 19th Century Lockport paper mill. It serves both as a touching tribute by the the family that donated the seven acres here at the entrance to the park, and a yearly reminder to look here for English violets in early to mid-April.
