At
one of the entrances to the Rollin T. Grant Gulf Wilderness Park is a plaque that
reads: The
Violet Patch Given
In Memory of Josephine McCollum Carveth by her family August 30,1967 "May
the joy in your heart always match The beauty found in this violet patch" It
is attached to millstone that was originally used in a 19th Century Lockport paper
mill. It serves both as a touching tribute by the the family that donated the
seven acres here at the entrance to the park, and a yearly reminder to look here
for English violets in early to mid-April. General
