Marshville Heritage Village
Cabinet Maker's Shop

Marshville Heritage Village, Park St. Wainfleet, ON

The building which houses the Marshville Cabinet Maker's Shop was built circa 1850, on the farm of J.W. Overholt on Forkes Road. The Overholt family history tells us that Mr. Overholt was an abolitionist connected to the underground railroad, and that he collected many escaped slaves when they made their way into Canada. They were housed in this building and two other smaller ones. Here they were fed, nursed, and made ready for their further journeys into southern Ontario.

The building was dismantled in the Spring of 2001, and reconstructed in the Summer of 2001 in the Marshville Heritage Village.
